Getting started

Go to the Settings tab and tap Annual Target under Billable Targets. Enter your firm's annual target — 1,525 hours is the default, which is a common target for associates at many Canadian and US firms.

OneTenth automatically calculates your monthly target by dividing the annual target across working days in the year, adjusting for statutory holidays and any leave you've added.

Tap the Add Time tab (the + icon in the tab bar). Select a date, enter your hours using the stepper or the quick-select buttons (0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0, 6.0, 8.0), choose whether the time is Billable or Non-billable, then tap Add Entry.

Time is entered in 0.1h (6-minute) increments — the standard billing unit for legal professionals.

In the Settings tab, scroll to the Location section. Select your Country (Canada or United States) and then your Province or State.

OneTenth will automatically populate the statutory holidays for your jurisdiction and exclude them from your working day count, which affects your daily target calculations.

Dashboard & tracking

The baseline daily target is your annual target divided evenly across all working days in the year. It doesn't change based on how you're tracking.

The adjusted daily target ADJ. DAILY recalculates dynamically based on your current pace. If you're behind, it increases slightly so you can catch up over the remaining working days. If you're ahead, it decreases. This is the number you should aim for each day.

The Spread vacation over year toggle in Settings controls whether the adjusted target distributes shortfall across the remaining working days in the year, or only across the current month.

The Over/Under figure shows how many hours you are ahead of or behind your cumulative target for the period. A positive number (shown in green) means you've billed more than required to date. A negative number (shown in red) means you're behind.

The dashboard shows this for both the current month and year to date, so you can see your position at both timescales at a glance.

Yes. In the Add Time tab, scroll down to Recent Entries. Tap any entry to edit it, or swipe left to reveal the delete option.

You can also view and manage entries for any specific day through the Monthly tab — tap a date row to see all entries for that day.

Leave & holidays

Tap the Leave tab. Under Date Range, set a From and To date — for a single day, set both to the same date. Add an optional note (e.g. "Annual leave" or "Sick day"), then tap Add Leave.

OneTenth will exclude those days from your working day count and automatically recalculate your adjusted daily target across the remaining days.

Holiday calendars are built in for all Canadian provinces and US states. If a holiday appears to be missing or is dated incorrectly, please email us at [email protected] with the holiday name, your province or state, and the correct date.

In the meantime, you can manually add any missing holiday as a leave day to ensure your working day calculations remain accurate.

Export & data

Go to Settings and scroll to the Export section. Tap Export CSV to generate a file containing all your time entries — date, hours, and billing type for each entry.

The CSV can be opened in Numbers, Excel, or any spreadsheet application for further analysis or record-keeping.

Yes. OneTenth supports importing time entries from a CSV file. The file must have three columns: date (YYYY-MM-DD format), hours (e.g. 6.4), and type (either billable or non-billable).

To import, go to Settings and tap Import CSV. This is useful if you're starting the app mid-year and want your year-to-date figures to reflect work already done.

OneTenth stores all data locally on your device and does not use iCloud sync. This means your data is not automatically backed up to the cloud.

To protect your data, we recommend exporting a CSV regularly and keeping a copy. Your data is included in your device's local iTunes/Finder backup if you back up your iPhone to a computer. If you delete and reinstall the app without a device backup, your data will be lost.

Privacy

No. OneTenth only records the number of hours and whether they are billable or non-billable. There is no field for client name, matter number, description, or any identifying information.

This is intentional. OneTenth is designed as a personal pace-tracking tool, not a docketing system. Your firm's practice management software (Clio, PCLaw, etc.) handles matter-level time recording. OneTenth is the private layer on top — just for you.

No. OneTenth has no servers, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no user accounts. The app makes no network requests whatsoever. Everything you enter stays on your device.
